Royalty Taxes and Business Services was a vision given to me by God. In 2016, I was a single mother and expecting an additional child. I had no other income coming in and not eligible to use my short-term disability plan since I had just added the coverage during the open enrollment period. I was expected to give birth in January which will make my pregnancy a prior condition. I prayed for direction on what could I do to provide for my children. I heard the Lord tell me to be a financial consultant.

I was stunned to hear that response. At the time I was sharing my knowledge of financial literacy for free; with many organizations in Houston. I would spend hours with groups of people and they would all tell me, that what I shared with them, they would pay for it. I would volunteer to prepare taxes at local churches and for families. So I felt uneased to start at first but I had to do something. I told God, I want to start another business. I have an MBA and had a representation for creating great business plans with superb financials.

I was disturbed and frustrated for I wanted God to help me. I needed a low overhead business, wanted to use the equipment/knowledge I had, and gain potential clients. I was working in my office for the last week before 12 weeks of maternity leave. A frequent visitor stopped by my office. She sat down and asked me, " how was I doing." I told her well." She just leaned in closer as if, what she was about to say was a secret and said, "Athena, you're brilliant, and I would love to pay you to help me prepare my taxes, and with my refund, I want to start a business. Do you do business plans?"

I knew, I did and could do both. It seemed like a light bulb went off. I told her, yes. I then poured out my heart to her and she said, "why not let God bless you. That's a royal gift when you can hear from him and I want to be your first client. " I thanked her and she later left. When I got off of work. I asked God, "can I create this business in 4 days and can I have it done in time." I felt like a could. I created the logo, the business plan, the marketing draft, my cost analysis against competitors, and my core legitimate practices.

On the last day before I went on maternity leave, I started marketing my new business. The first tax year I serviced close to 50 people and created other services that met the needs of my clients. Now we've been in business for 5 years and have over to 200 clients in 15 different states. I have assisted with 44 businesses; helping my clients start them, mitigate risks, do an acquisition, merger, franchise, and or dissolve.

I decided to name this company Royalty Taxes and Business Services, for I knew this was a Royal divine gift from God and I don't take it lightly. I now have a team and we all serve each client, with integrity, professionalism, insight and custom service that meet our clients diverse needs.

I am a licensed Insurance agent, hold a Bachelors degree in Finance and a Master in Business Administration. I am a devoted and loving wife to Jonnathon Jefferson and mother to Damien, Jonnathon Jr., Jewels, Alia, Josiah, and Justice.
